I am often asked if I would recommend an organization using the ACE Questionnaire. Generally folks are asking because they are interested in screening for trauma in some way. Which is so fabulous! The question is a great one. But here's why using the ACE questionnaire is not a good idea.
What's the one thing you can do to get people to change? I'm talking about anyone, of any background, who actually wants to change. (Their desire to change is the starting point, of course.) But after that, what can you do?
Sometimes it's hard to know where to start, especially if the person you're dealing with has a lot of complicated needs. The first, best choice is always stepping forward into connection. Because, if we can't build a relationship, how we can ever really help?
