The effects of sexual abuse don't always stay in the past...
although we might like them to.
Sexual abuse suffered as a child and/or an adult (with a family member, a partner, fellow soldiers, friend, etc.) can affect our physical health, emotional well being, relationships with our friends, family, children (even co-workers!) and so much more. Not everyone gets it. Maybe this idea is new to you too?
Triggers from past trauma like abuse can surface anytime, even in situations that are seemingly unrelated to sexual assault. We talk about triggers, integrity, boundaries and more as we unpack our feelings and behaviors around everyday situations, gaining greater understanding and confidence from ourselves and each other.
Sometimes it's good to be with other women who get it.
If this sounds like something that would be helpful to you, join us...
Starting Tuesday August 15 and running as an open, drop-in group, I will offer a free, sexual trauma (molestation, date rape, IPSV, MST, incest, etc.) peer support group in Durham. We will meet evenings.
This group will be peer-led (by me, a rape survivor) and open to female-identified survivors. LGBTQ affirmative. This group is drop-in. You can come once, or every week. There is no end date.
If you are interested but haven't been to a group before, feel free to contact me so I can answer any questions you have before you come to group. Or just come! It's drop in so you're welcome any Tuesday.
